Mesopotamian Dramaturgies / Sılsel

Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts

Sılsel is a participative performance sculpture where members of the public contribute their designs on pieces of fabric. The artist encourages participants through their designs to express their aspiration for what kind of world they want for themselves, and for others.

Pieces are sewn together at an exhibition space, forming a long roll pulled up toward the ceiling, zigzagging across the space to form a metaphor for a woven sky.  Individual narratives are combined into a single story.

The Istanbul International Theatre Festival 2012 hosted the first manifestation of Sılsel.
